Chargers´ Rivers cleared to face Bills

November 18 2017 2:08 AM

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was medically cleared to play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the team announced.

Rivers, who had been in the concussion protocol since Monday, was cleared by an independent neurological consultant.

Rivers has started 185 consecutive regular-season games, which is the second-longest streak of any current quarterback after Eli Manning (208).

He has completed 60.1 per cent of his passes this season, while racking up 2,263 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Chargers (3-6), losers of two straight games, are tied for last with the Denver Broncos in the AFC West.

On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger became the ninth player in NFL history with 4,000-plus career completions.

Roethlisberger, Rivers and Manning are the first trio from the same draft class (2004) to each complete 4,000-plus passes.

Rivers has completed at least 300 passes every season since 2008. He has 194 completions already this year.
