WATCH: Pirates allow three runs to score on fly out

April 14 2018 4:07 AM

The Miami Marlins just managed to get three runs to score on a sacrifice fly against the Pittsburgh Pirates in MLB action on Friday.

Confused? So are we. But it happened and it came at the expense of Pirates starter Chad Kuhl.

With one out and the bases loaded for Starlin Castro in the fifth inning, Kuhl got the former to fly out to right fielder Gregory Polanco.

The 26-year-old then fired a throw home, but it was too late to catch pitcher Dillon Peters who tagged up from third base.

This is where things got crazy. Miguel Rojas then tried to advance on the throw home to second base and Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli threw down trying to catch him.

Problem was the throw sailed and Starling Marte was nowhere to be found to back up the play. That allowed Derek Dietrich to score from second and Rojas followed him all the way around to score from first.

It goes down as a sac fly and a two-base error. Only one of the runs was earned but the Pirates deserve all the ridicule for this play.
