Sale downs Rangers, Yankees´ Torres hits walk-off homer

May 7 2018 8:03 AM

Chris Sale led the Boston Red Sox to a 6-1 victory against the Texas Rangers after striking out 12 batters in seven innings.

Sale needed just 103 pitches to silence Texas by allowing one run off four hits in the lopsided win in MLB on Sunday.

He improved to 3-1 for the season with a 2.02 ERA once again putting himself in position for a Cy Young chase.

Boston catcher Sandy Leon and outfielder J.D. Martinez led the Red Sox at the plate. Leon cracked his first home run of the season, while finishing the game two for four with three RBIs and a walk.

Martinez crushed his eighth home run for the Red Sox.

Rangers starter Doug Fister was touched up for six earned runs off nine hits in 6.3 innings. He fell to 1-3 this season, and the Rangers dropped to 13-23.

Unfortunately for the Red Sox, they lost Mookie Betts in the first inning when Ronald Guzman struck the former in the back of the right shoulder while advancing to second base.

SCHERZER LIFTS NATIONALS

Washington Nationals ace and two-time reigning National League Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer struck out 15 batters while allowing just one run in 6.3 innings. The Nationals won 5-4 over the Philadelphia Phillies after scoring four runs in the last two innings.

Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario went two for four with a home run (seven), two RBIs (24) and two runs scored to help Minnesota beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3 to move back into second place in the American League (AL) Central.

ANDERSON COSTLY IN BREWERS LOSS

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Chase Anderson fell to 3-3 for the season after allowing five earned runs in 5.3 innings in a 9-0 rout to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Milwaukee lost the series after their sweep by the Chicago Cubs last weekend.

TORRES THE WALK-OFF HERO

Gleyber Torres, who helped the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 7-4, became the team's youngest player (21 years, 144 days) to hit a walk-off home run.

SUNDAY'S RESULTS

Washington Nationals 5-4 Philadelphia Phillies
Colorado Rockies 3-2 New York Mets
San Francisco Giants 4-3 Atlanta Braves

GIANTS AT PHILLIES

The Giants head across the country to face the Phillies, who have surprised in the tough NL East. Both teams added to the payroll during the offseason, and it has helped, as they both sit above .500. Giants ace Madison Bumgarner suffered another freak injury before the season began, but they have won four straight games and look like postseason contenders.
