Mets´ Gonzalez turns back clock in win over Reds

May 8 2018 7:14 AM

New York Mets first baseman Adrian Gonzalez enjoyed a blast from the past in a 7-6 win over the Cincinnati Reds in MLB on Monday.

Gonzalez, who was signed by the Mets off waivers this offseason after being traded to the Braves, hit two home runs with three hits and three runs scored to lead New York to a narrow victory.

Starting the game with just 24 home runs since the end of the 2015 season, Gonzalez proved he still had some pop in his bat.

Jay Bruce also provided the Mets with some power, collecting two hits with a home run, two RBIs and two walks. The win helped the Mets (18-15) end a six-game losing streak.

The Reds were down 7-3 entering the sixth inning, but made a late rally thanks to an eighth-inning Scooter Gennett home run. With the loss, Cincinnati fell to 8-27.

HERRERA LEADS PHILLIES

Odubel Herrera led the Phillies to an 11-0 win over the Giants by clubbing two home runs — his second multi-home run game of the season. Herrera, second in the early National League (NL) race for batting title, is now hitting .341 this season after collecting three runs scored and five RBIs in the win.

FOWLER FAILS

Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler was the hero late Sunday, but he went 0 for four in Monday's 6-0 loss to the Twins. St Louis' entire offense struggled, but Fowler is now batting just .155 this season.

BRILLIANT BAEZ

Javier Baez is in rare form.

Baez's 10th home run of the season led the Cubs to a 14-2 win over the Marlins. But he left the game in the seventh inning with right groin tightness.

MONDAY'S RESULTS

Philadelphia Phillies 11-0 San Francisco Giants
New York Mets 7-6 Cincinnati Reds
Chicago Cubs 14-2 Miami Marlins
Texas Rangers 7-6 Detroit Tigers
Minnesota Twins 6-0 St Louis Cardinals
Houston Astros 16-2 Oakland Athletics
Washington Nationals 8-5 San Diego Padres

RED SOX AT YANKEES

Just one game separates these two American League (AL) East rivals, and New York, winners of six straight games, have ace Luis Severino on the mound Tuesday. The Red Sox, winners of three straight, will counter with Drew Pomeranz as they try to maintain control of the division.
