Former Golden State Warriors forward West retires after 15 NBA seasons

Former Golden State Warriors forward David West has retired from the NBA after 15 seasons in the league.

West made the announcement - a day after his 38th birthday - via a statement posted on Twitter, and bows out on top, having won championships in his final two seasons with the Warriors.

He came off the bench in all 176 of his regular-season and playoff appearances for Golden State.

"I have been fortunate enough to live out my childhood dream of playing in the NBA," West said in the statement.

"After 15 seasons I have to decided to retire from the game of basketball."

The then-New Orleans Hornets made Xavier's West a first-round pick in 2003 and he went on to play for the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and the Warriors..

West, who twice made the All-Star Game, averaged 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in his career, scoring 14,034 points.
