Zoo names giraffe after 3,000-hit star Beltre

July 31 2017 4:14 AM

Adrian Beltre is the newest member of MLB's 3,000-hit club and now he has his own giraffe.

Texas Rangers star Beltre became the 31st player in baseball history to reach the milestone during Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Beltre sent a pitch from Baltimore's Wade Miley down the left-field line for a stand-up double in the fourth inning, becoming the first-ever Dominican native with 3,000 hits.

The 38-year-old – a four-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove third baseman – and his prowess with the bat have earned plenty of applause and praise, and his very own animal thanks to the Fort Worth Zoo.
