Minnesota Twins hand manager Molitor three-year extension

October 9 2017 11:27 PM

After becoming the first team in MLB history to go from 100 losses to the playoffs in consecutive seasons, the Minnesota Twins have agreed a contract extension with manager Paul Molitor.

Molitor will remain Minnesota's manager through the 2020 season, the club announced on Monday.

The 61-year-old's previous three-year deal expired after the Twins' 2017 campaign, which ended with an American League Wild Card Game loss to the New York Yankees last week.

Molitor is 227-259 in three seasons as the manager for the Twins, but led the team to an 85-77 record and a wild-card berth this season after the team lost 103 games in 2016.

He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the Twins in 2016.
