Steelers QB Roethlisberger plans to return next season

January 15 2018 3:05 AM

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is not going to end his NFL career with a home playoff loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Following Sunday's disappointing 45-42 AFC divisional round defeat to the Jaguars, Roethlisberger hushed retirement talks which have been swirling since week five when Jacksonville picked him off five times in a 30-9 home loss.

"I don't know who's coming back, but I know the guys up front are and that makes it good for me," Roethlisberger told reporters post-match. "So I look forward to next year with these guys.

"I definitely have a desire to play football. I love this game, I love these guys."

Roethlisberger said after the week five loss he maybe did not "have it anymore."

The 35-year-old had gaudy numbers on Sunday, going 37 of 58 for 469 yards and five touchdowns but fell victim to two turnovers and questionable play-calling.

While Roethlisberger, who is under contact through the 2019 season, plans on returning, offensive co-ordinator Todd Haley's contract is expiring.

Expect Haley to be the fall guy for the Steelers' loss and Pittsburgh and the 'Killer B's' to come back stronger next season.
