Mariners second baseman Cano suffers fractured hand

May 14 2018 3:13 AM

Seattle Mariners star Robinson Cano was forced to leave Sunday's 5-4 MLB loss to the Detroit Tigers with a fractured bone in his right hand.

Cano was batting in the top of the third inning when a pitch from Detroit left-hander Blaine Hardy sailed inside and hit him near the hand.

The eight-time All-Star and 2009 World Series champion was examined by Seattle's trainer near home plate before being removed.

Cano – a five-time Silver Slugger and two-time Gold Glove award winner – was replaced at second base by Andrew Romine.

The 35-year-old has hit .287 with four home runs and 23 RBIs this season.

He batted .280 with 23 home runs and 97 RBIs in 2017.
