Diamondbacks star Pollock facing two months out with fractured thumb

May 16 2018 5:40 AM

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock will miss four to eight weeks with a fractured left thumb, the MLB team announced on Tuesday.

All-Star and Gold Glove winner Pollock injured his thumb in the ninth inning of Arizona's 7-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday when he dove on a failed attempt to catch a line drive hit by Tyler Saladino.

The ball rolled past Pollock and Saladino turned the play into an inside-the-park home run.

Pollock has batted .293 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs for Arizona this season. He is a career .287 hitter.

The 28-year-old has spent all seven of his MLB seasons with the Diamondbacks. He was an All-Star in 2015 when he registered a career-high .315 batting average and .367 on base percentage. Pollock also won his lone Gold Glove Award that year.

Arizona have opened 2018 with a 24-17 record but they have lost their last six games.
