Mets outfielder Lagares expected to miss rest of season with toe injury

May 19 2018 1:44 AM

The New York Mets placed outfielder Juan Lagares on the disabled list with a torn ligament in his toe, the team announced on Friday.

Lagares will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

He injured his toe on Wednesday when he collided with the fence while making a catch late in New York’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Lagares has hit .339 in 30 games for the Mets this season. He has spent his entire six-year career in New York.

The Mets also placed star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes on the disabled list earlier this week with a strained hip flexor.

New York have registered a 20-19 record so far in 2018. They opened the season 11-1 but have struggled of late, dropping 10 of their last 13 games.
