Gary Sanchez injury update: Yankees catcher on track to return after All-Star break

July 15 2018 1:19 AM

Gary Sanchez could soon re-join the Yankees lineup.

The 25-year-old New York catcher will begin a rehab assignment Sunday at Triple-A Scranton, according to a report from The Athletic. Sanchez is expected to return to the Yankees’ active roster after the All-Star break, the report says.

Sanchez originally landed on the disabled list June 25 with a right groin strain.

Sanchez has struggled at the plate this season. He’s slashed just .190/.291/.433 but he has belted 14 home runs and tallied 41 RBIs.

The 25-year-old was an All-Star in 2017 when he hit .278 with 33 home runs and 90 RBIs.

The Yankees are currently in second place of the American League East with a 61-32 record.
