Yankees´ Happ contracts hand, foot and mouth disease

August 1 2018 1:13 AM

New York Yankees pitcher J.A. Happ has been sent home with hand, foot and mouth disease, it was announced.

All-Star Happ – acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays last week – was withdrawn before Tuesday's MLB clash against the Baltimore Orioles.

The 35-year-old left-hander is now in doubt for Saturday's blockbuster showdown against American League rivals the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Happ has made one start with the Yankees since his arrival, tossing six innings of three-hit, one-run baseball in a 6-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

It is the second case of hand, foot and mouth disease to hit a New York baseball team this season.

New York Mets starter Noah Syndergaard was put on the 10-day disabled list with the ailment on July 22.

Syndergaard is yet to return for the Mets.
