Rockets´ Paul donates $2.5m to Wake Forest

NBA All-Star Chris Paul is taking a chunk of his huge new Houston Rockets deal and sending it to the Wake Forest programme that helped shape his game.

Wake Forest announced on Tuesday that Paul has donated $2.5 million to his alma mater’s basketball programme and will in turn have the new men’s locker room named in his honour.

Paul, a Winston-Salem native, played two seasons at Wake Forest (2003-05) and was a consensus All-American in 2005. His number three jersey was retired in 2013.

"With this gift, Chris not only shows his generosity but his continued passion for Wake Forest and we are grateful to continue to have him involved with our programme," Wake Forest coach Danny Manning said in a statement.

Paul said: "Giving back has always been important to my family and me, and Wake Forest is part of my family.

"The recent investments towards improving Wake Forest Athletics are amazing, and now is the time to give back in a meaningful way."

The Rockets guard is just the latest NBA star to give back to his college programme. Kevin Durant gifted Texas $3million in January and will have the men's basketball facilities named after him.
