Rookie Jets QB Sam Darnold throws pick-six on first NFL pass

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold's first pass in the NFL resulted in a pick-six against the Detroit Lions.

Jets rookie Darnold, 21, took the opening snap in Monday's game, faked a handoff to Bilal Powell, rolled to his right and attempted to throw across the field to the running back.

Detroit cornerback Quandre Diggs, however, stepped in front of Powell, intercepted Darnold's pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.

The Jets selected Darnold out of USC with the third pick in the 2018 draft.

Darnold beat out veteran Josh McCown and former Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater in training camp for New York's starting spot.

The Jets then sent Bridgewater, along with a sixth-round draft pick, to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a third-round selection.

Darnold threw for 244 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the preseason.
