Panthers TE Olsen out indefinitely with fractured foot

September 11 2018 7:33 PM

The Carolina Panthers have announced tight end Greg Olsen re-fractured his right foot in Sunday's win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Olsen will be out indefinitely, with the Panthers stating there is no plan for surgery. He will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis to determine when he can return.

Depending on his timeframe for recovery, Olsen could be placed on injured reserve, which would keep him on the sideline for eight weeks.

Olsen, who missed nine games in 2017 with an injury to the same foot, exited the Cowboys game after he stepped on the foot of a Dallas defender. He was taken to the locker room, then returned to the sidelines on crutches.

Rookie Ian Thomas is expected to start for Olsen and receiver Devin Funchess will likely have an expanded role in the offense.

The team also announced that offensive tackle Daryl Williams will undergo surgery after injuring his knee against the Cowboys.
