Braves make unwanted history against Nationals

September 16 2018 1:09 AM

The Atlanta Braves had trouble finding the strike zone against the Washington Nationals as they made unwanted history on Saturday.

Atlanta walked 13 batters through eight innings in a 7-1 loss to Washington in MLB, marking the first time the Braves achieved that since moving from Milwaukee in 1966.

The main culprits in the less-than-fortunate record were Julio Teheran, who walked six batters and rookie Touki Toussaint who walked four in one inning.

Atlanta have walked that many batters in a game before, but the team have gone through several iterations since.

The last time they walked 13 batters in a game was in 1938 when the team was still named the Bees and in Boston.

In 1940 the team took on the name the Braves (for the second time, they were named the Braves from 1912 to 1936 as well) and moved to Milwaukee in 1953. The franchise ultimately moved to Atlanta in 1966.
