Arians would only come out of retirement for Browns job

November 5 2018 10:57 PM

Bruce Arians said he would only consider coming out of retirement to take the Cleveland Browns job.

The Browns fired Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley last week, appointing Gregg Williams as interim head coach.

Former Arizona Cardinals coach Arians said he would be open to getting back on the sidelines if Cleveland come knocking.

“Cleveland is the only job I would consider,” he said while in the CBS booth.

Arians previously coached for the Browns as the offensive coordinator under Butch Davis from 2001 to 2003, during which time the team reached the playoffs.

Since then, Cleveland have gone through quarterbacks and coaches at an alarming rate and according to Arians, an experienced man is required.

Arians wanted to take over when the Browns were looking for a new head coach in 2013, but Rob Chudzinski landed the role.

The 66-year-old spent four years with Cardinals before announcing his retirement after the 2017 season.

As for who he would hire on his Browns staff, Arians named his former mentor.

“My guy would be Chuck Pagano,” Arians said.
