MLB commissioner Manfred gets five-year extension

November 15 2018 8:26 PM

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred will continue to run the show after signing a five-year contract extension, the league confirmed.

The new deal was announced on Thursday and will keep Manfred at the helm through 2024.

The 60-year-old needed 16 votes from the 30 MLB owners, although the groups voted to unanimously approve the move.

Manfred became the 10th commissioner of MLB when he took over from Bud Selig in January 2015. He has been responsible for achieving record revenues, sponsoring changes to pace of play rules and negotiating a new five-year collective bargaining agreement.
