Jets hire Adam Gase as next head coach

January 11 2019 10:41 PM

The New York Jets have appointed former Miami Dolphins head coach Adam Gase to succeed Todd Bowles.

Gase was fired by the Dolphins in December after three seasons at the helm and the Jets confirmed his arrival on Friday.

"At the onset of the interview process, I wanted to hire a head coach who was the right person and the right fit for our organisation,” Jets chief executive Christopher Johnson told the team's website.

"We talked to a number of excellent candidates and it became clear to me that Adam was the person who will help us establish a winning program and a winning culture."

Gase served as the offensive coordinator with the Denver Broncos and the Chicago Bears before being hired by the Dolphins in 2016.

He led the team to a 10-6 record and a playoff appearance in his first year but tallied just 15 total wins over the next two seasons.

Gase will replace Bowles, who was let go by New York after registering a 24-40 record over four seasons. The Jets failed to make the postseason under Bowles.
