Coronavirus: David Price gives $1,000 to Dodgers minor leaguers

May 31 2020 1:26 AM

David Price has not thrown a pitch yet for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he has already endeared himself to the organisation and their fans with a goodwill gesture amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Price will give $1,000 each to every minor leaguer not on the Dodgers' 40-man roster, a team spokesman confirmed on Saturday. The players will continue to receive $400 a week from the team through at least June.

Acquired from the Boston Red Sox along with Mookie Betts in a February trade, the 34-year-old Price is on a $217million, seven-year contract that runs through 2021.

He was set to earn $32m this season, with the Red Sox paying $16m.

Price won the 2012 American League (AL) Cy Young Award with the Tampa Bay Rays and is 150-80 with a 3.31 ERA in 321 career games over 12 major-league seasons.
