Coronavirus: Astros player tests positive for COVID-19

June 20 2020 3:31 AM

A player for the Houston Astros recently tested positive for COVID-19 at the team's facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, general manager James Click said on Friday.

Click said the unidentified player experienced minor symptoms and is recovering well.

"The safety of our staff and players remains our top priority," Click said. "We were fortunate to be able to take swift action once we learned of the player testing positive and we are pleased that there were no other players that tested positive."

The Astros reported no other positive tests at the facility, where seven or eight players have been working out since last month.

The team also said that no players working out in Houston have tested positive.

The Philadelphia Phillies confirmed earlier on Friday that they had five players and three staff members at the team's facilities in Clearwater, Florida, test positive for coronavirus.

The Toronto Blue Jays shut down their facilities in Dunedin, Florida on Friday after one player exhibited coronavirus symptoms.
